Venue

The Saint Alfege Lodge meets four times a year (the third Saturday of February, April September and November at Mark Masons Hall, 86 St James’s Street, London, SW1A 1PL, adjacent to St James’s Palace.  This grand building is home to numerous masonic lodges as well as other masonic orders.

The current building dates back to 1862 though the site on which it stands has a much older history having been the location for public houses, private clubs, a coffee house and “a place where gentlemen meet on purpose to play at billiards” since the early 18th century.  From 1886 to 1869 it was occupied by the Civil Service Club with residential apartments on the upper floors, this period was followed by a series of various private clubs holding the lease.  In December 1977 The Grand Lodge of Mark Masons of England and Wales obtained the lease for a term of 99 years.  Conversion work was completed by July 1979 and Mark Masons hall was formerly opened in September that same year.

The building contains several lodge meeting rooms of differing sizes as well as several dining rooms, plus, essentially, a communal bar.  The venue is ideally suited to masonic requirements and is set in a very imposing location.

We also have a Lodge of Instruction meeting every Tuesday 8 pm to 10 pm at Dartford Masonic Hall, 71 West Hill, Dartford, DA1 2 HJ where we practice the various ceremonies that we perform during our Saturday meetings. Member’s attendance is flexible, family and work commitments permitting.
